The Elko Band Elder's Program operates with funds from Title VI under the Administration on Aging, located in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, as established by the Older Americans Act under Public Law 89-73.
Mission Statement: To develop a comprehensive, coordinated, and cost-effective system of long-term care that helps elders (55 years and older) to maintain their dignity in their homes and communities, and to assist their caregivers in accessing services and benefits available to those they serve that preserves and restores their respective dignity, self-respect, and cultural identities:
Nutrition Services: The Shoshone Welcome Center provides a nutritious meal five days a week, 52 weeks per year and meets 1/3 Recommended Daily Requirement as determined by the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Meals are provided in a congregate setting that promotes socialization, activities and purpose for individuals 55 years or older. Home delivered meals are available for frail elders unable to perform regular activities of daily living. Nutrition education is provided once a month and nutrition counseling is available on a one-on-one basis.
Supportive Services include assistance in accessing services through information and referral, outreach, and case management. Transportation is provided to the congregate meal site and access to services, shopping, and bill paying. Other services include escort, interpretation/translating and letter-writing.
Caregiver Supportive Services are provided to unpaid family members caring for older family members and grandparents raising grandchildren. Information and access to available services is provided through referral, individual counseling, support groups, caregiver training and respite services.
